What is a Premature Baby?
Under normal conditions, birth takes place between 38 and 42 weeks. Babies born before 37 weeks of gestation are called premature. However, in our country, a substantial rate of 10 percent of babies are born earlier.
Major Health Problems Awaiting Premature Babies
hypothermia
Babies who start life early cannot maintain their body temperature because their bodies have less adipose tissue and a large surface area. We call this condition "hypothermia". It is necessary for babies with hypothermia to stay in incubators for a suitable period of time, both to provide the necessary body temperature and humidity, and to reduce the risk of infection.
RDS (Respiratory Distress Syndrome)
Apnea of Prematurity
Jaundice
Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC)
Hearing loss
Infections
Retinopathy of Prematurity
Patent Ductus Arteriosus
Periventricular Leukomalacia
Anemia
Each of these diseases is a risk in itself that requires serious treatment, sometimes a long time and very special care. However, it is possible to carry out treatments in centers where specialist physicians and the necessary equipment are available.
