When breast milk is insufficient, babies can be fed with baby formula at the appropriate months. After the 5th month, they can gradually eat fruit puree such as bananas and apples.

What Do Babies Feed?

For babies, only breast milk is recommended for the first six months. Sometimes there may be situations where breast milk is not enough. After the first six months, breast milk should continue to be given along with complementary foods. For the first six months, the baby should not be given even water other than breast milk. At the end of the 5th month, purees of fruits such as bananas and apples can be slowly introduced. Breast milk also strengthens the bond between mother and child.

How is the Development of a 5-Month-Old Baby?

5-month-old babies who weigh more than twice their birth weight should have an average weight of 6-8 kilos and a height of 63-65 centimeters. They can now respond to their own names and distinguish sounds. They can start crawling. They recognize and distinguish faces. Their ability to grasp objects is more developed than in other months. His sense of hearing has improved and his interest in different sounds has also increased. He/she tries to repeat sounds. They can respond to different sounds by laughing.

How Do We Know If Breast Milk Is Not Enough For The Baby?

There may be some situations where breast milk is not enough. If the baby urinates 6-8 times a day and poops 3-4 times a day, this means that you have enough milk. If he sleeps immediately after breastfeeding, does not whine or wave his hands around, this means that he is full. If you hear a swallowing sound while your baby is breastfeeding and your breast is slightly aching, this means your baby is sucking breast milk. Breast milk should be given every 2 hours in the first months. To increase your milk supply, you can withdraw it with the help of a pump.

What should be given to the baby if breast milk is not enough?

The easiest way to understand that your baby is not getting enough milk is to look at his weight. If you suspect that your milk supply is insufficient, you should consult your doctor. If your milk is not enough, you can give your baby formula suitable for his age. These foods contain every nutrient your baby needs. It is rich in vitamins and minerals and iron deficiency is not observed. It is definitely not recommended to give pure cow's milk. It would be best to consult your doctor first.

What Foods Make Milk?

If your milk supply is low, you can increase your milk supply by consuming a few more foods at home. First of all, you need to make sure you drink enough water. It is recommended that you drink at least 3-3.5 liters of water a day. Apart from this, you can increase your milk supply by consuming foods such as green leafy plants, whole grain foods, oily fish, barley, red meat, eggs, oil seeds and nuts, yoghurt, carrots, apricots and dates, and legumes.
